I had the honor of seeing “Birdy” live in concert at August Hall in San Francisco, CA on October 22nd, 2023. It was such a beautiful performance. She and her band are immensely talented. Her voice was so soft when speaking to the crowd, and then when she began to sing you could feel the power that this woman has within her. She is a singer and songwriter from England. Per Wikipedia “She won the music competition Open Mic UK in 2008, at the age of 12.” She has continued to excel in the music industry ever since. She plays the piano, the electronic keyboard, as well as the guitar, and at age 27 she already has five studio albums.
Her self titled studio album “Birdy” was released in November 2011. Followed by the studio albums: “Fire Within” in 2013, “Beautiful Lies” in 2016, “Young Heart” in 2021 and her most recent studio album “Portraits” which was released in August 2023.
I started listening to Birdy in 2016 when I heard the song “Find Me” which she collaborated with the British electronic music duo Sigma on. It features her vocals and their electronic beats. It is one of my favorite songs, and listening to it always makes me dance! When I saw that she was playing at August Hall in SF I knew it was a must see show. August Hall is a lovely venue. It has an old style theater vibe with a beautiful balcony, and great lighting. About The Venue – August Hall (augusthallsf.com) She and her band (I believe I heard her say) “Charlotte” on bass, “Jay” on drums, and her back up singer “Essence Martin’s” really put on a great show. The crowd was enthusiastic and I felt like we all left there happier having witnessed Birdy perform.
I was dancing so hard throughout the show I only was able to take a short video of them performing. It is her 2016 song “Keeping Your Head Up” which will now be a part of my playlist and hopefully yours too.
